Largest of the great apes a male gorilla may be six feet tall and weigh 400 pounds. He appears fierce when he displays his strength by beating his chest. However gorillas are gentle, peaceful creatures that play and forage for insects and plants in the lush forests. Adult gorillas watch over their playful babies. At night each gorilla makes a sleeping nest of tree branches or tall grasses.
